Because of the way that sound works on Windows, in particular the ASIO4ALL driver used by the game, other applications can prevent the sound from being heard, by 'hogging' the sound hardware or drivers.
Therefore, it may be necessary to close all other applications before starting the game.
To confirm whether sound playback is working, go to Practice Mode
and click "Start Listening" on the Practice Mode Menu.
Make sure that your speakers are connected and the volume is set correctly.
If necessary, confirm they are working with another program you know makes sound.
If you have started the game and there is no sound output you will need to exit the game, then close all other applications and restart the game.
Not all applications will cause this type of problem. Some that we know definitely do prevent sound working are :-
- The Piano Tabs Windows Application
- Web Browsers (like Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome)
- Email clients (Microsoft Outlook in particular)
- Skype
Overall, it is best to close everything, given that the game uses the whole screen anyway.
Please Note :
In some circumstances, it might be necessary to download and install a later version of
ASIO4ALL.
The version installed with the game has been thoroughly tested, but we have had a report of
one computer requiring a later version.
